What are the best parts of the CE Shop?

The Minnesota real estate school offers multiple pre-licensing course packages that span a diverse range of real estate topics. Once you finalize your purchase, you gain access to the course for up to twelve months (one year). Without a doubt, the sheer scope of the course topics and the affordable price all make The CE Shop one of the highest-ranking real-estate schools in the nation and account for its outstanding reputation.

An additional perk of The CE Shop is that they have a nice balance of study methods so students can efficiently process material for tremendous success. Students could work at their own pace (slow or fast) using the online classes and additional study material to ensure success.

What are the worst parts of the CE Shop?

Some students find the wording in the exam board questions difficult and feel that the preparation training did not prepare them for what lay ahead from a vocabulary perspective.

They say that the wording is difficult to understand, and if they cannot comprehend the answers, they cannot effectively answer the question. The added work of deciphering the hard-to-understand questions makes it difficult to focus on the other segments of the licensing exam. The student often starts feeling the pressure to complete the task in a speedy manner which can cost them when it comes to a grade and passing the course.

Despite the ease of online courses, many would-be students just can't let go of the old-school-style in-person classes. They need that one-on-one discourse with a teacher to truly grasp the situation. However, The CE Shop offers no in-person classes, which is a significant drawback for anyone seeking a more traditional type of real estate class in Minnesota.

Rating and Reviews

As one of Minnesota's most popular real estate courses, The CE Shop is highly favored and respected. Most students give the educational school four to five stars to showcase their satisfaction with the program and packages.

The CE Shop provides interactive material and an attractive price point. The only complaints that stand out were a few students who complained about the course's comprehensive level regarding understanding. Some students expressed displeasure with the math section of the educational course. Also, they felt that the course did not cover very much information about real estate taxes.

Many students left positive reviews covering their enjoyment of the online school's format and structure of the course sections. They also left praise, saying that everything was easy to set their own individual pace and take natural breaks provided with the material.

What is included in the study packages?

To meet the requirements for your Minnesota real estate salesperson license, you must first complete three 30-hour courses. These courses study real estate principles, valuation, advertising, contracts, financing, and more.

Course 1 – $210

The first 30-hour course serves as an introduction to the principles of real estate law, measurements, title transfer, and more.

Course 2  – $210

The second 30-hour course goes into greater detail into topics such as:

  • Real Estate Valuation
  • Financing Applications
  • Real Estate Contracts
  • Fair Housing
  • Real Estate Specialties

Course 3 – $210

The third 30-hour course is the last course in the program, focusing on more advanced topics you'll need to know, like:

  • Real Estate Closing Procedures
  • Real Estate Finance
  • Real Estate Law

ContinuingEd Express offers these three courses separately, or you can purchase a bundle that includes all three for $579. In addition to the three courses above, you will also receive their printable and online flashcards and their exam prep package with this bundle.

What are the advantages of ContinuingEd Express?

ContinuingEd Express offers a generous refund policy and flexible course options. To support your learning of real estate principles, ContinuingEd Express courses offer:

  • Interactive activities to help you learn the math of real estate
  • Downloadable section summaries to give you an at-a-glance view of the materials
  • e-Flashcards™ so you can practice your understanding
  • Frequent practice quizzes to check mastery of the material
  • Videos by your instructors to introduce and teach the principles of real estate
  • High-quality diagrams to reinforce challenging concepts
  • Easy access to the instructor, with links on each page so you can reach out when you need help
  • A textbook free experience

Minnesota's licensing requirements state that your exams must be proctored by someone you are not related to to be valid. Since the start of the pandemic, in-person proctoring has become more complicated. To best meet the needs of their students, ContinuingEd Express offers in-person and remote proctoring for just $20, added to the cost of each individual course.

What are the disadvantages of ContinuingEd Express?

No textbook is required to take these courses, but at the same time, none are offered, either. This is a disadvantage for people who prefer to have a hard copy textbook to study, or to review later on. Some students also flagged issues with obscure or convoluted questions on the exams and felt frustrated that the 100% to pass rule sometimes made it difficult for them to proceed with the course.

Rating and Reviews

Overall, students seem to appreciate the flexibility and quality of ContinuingEd Express's course offerings. Some expressed frustration with test questions, but most were very happy with their experience. On Facebook, the average rating is 4.5 of 5.

"I have had a great experience with CEE… All of my questions and interactions with staff and instructors has been helpful and easy. Questions are answered promptly and the material is relevant to my interests and development. I take advantage of course offerings every year towards my continuing education requirements because of repeat positive experiences and will continue to do so."

"The end of chapter tests have convoluted and complicated questions and require 100% to pass while the end of course tests require only 70%. This setup causes much lost time and energy and even causes confusion as to what the actual answers are when you have to take the test over because of a poorly worded question or answer. When I questioned the company about the problems the only answer I got was "Thank you for contacting us with your question. The passing percentage for a quiz is based on many different factors, and different courses, or different quizzes within a course, may have different quiz passing percentages."

Return policy/cancellation policy

ContinuingEd Express offers refunds within 60 days of enrollment, as long as the final exam has not yet been completed. Even better, they make the process simple. All you have to do is complete a brief webform and submit.

Jeanne Johnson & Associates LLC

jeanne johnson

Editor's Score: C+

Jeanne Johnson & Associates LLC is one of the few approved providers for Minnesota Real Estate Salesperson pre-licensure education. This online education provider offers all three courses necessary to obtain your license in the state of Minnesota, as well as programs for other real estate professionals, from appraisers to title insurers.

What is included in the study packages?

Courses 1-3 are offered in sequence for $450. You receive access to the next course once you have completed the previous one with a passing score. The website does not include any additional information about the courses, other than that the meet the requirements for licensure by the state of Minnesota.

What are the advantages of Jeanne Johnson & Associates LLC?

The instructor has 30 years of experience working in the real estate industry, working on everything from title transfers to appraisals.

The price of this package is lower than some of its competitors.

What are the disadvantages of Jeanne Johnson & Associates LLC?

Compared to other programs available, this one appears to be a bit dated. The website doesn't appear to have been updated for some time, and the very little information available on the site is hard to find.

With no way to see how the online courses look, it would be easy to assume that they are just as dated as the website, but it's impossible to know for sure.

Rating and Reviews

No reviews for Jeanne Johnson & Associates LLC could be found anywhere online.

Return policy/cancellation policy

No information was available on the website regarding a return or cancellation policy for these online courses. This provider is not affiliated with the Better Business Bureau either, so it is hard to know whether students have had a problem with getting their money back if they are dissatisfied.

[table "Jeanne-Johnson-Associates" not found /]

The state of Minnesota requires that you complete two types of tests in order to obtain your real estate license. The first test (or tests) or those that are given to you by your education provider. These tests are used to test your understanding of the principles of real estate sales.

Another Word or Two About the Exams

Most education providers will require you to pass a final exam at the end of each of the three required courses. You become eligible to sit for your state exam, as described below as soon as you have successfully completed Course 1. You become eligible to apply for your license as soon as you have passed the state exam and all three courses, and have connected with a licensed broker in the state for whom you will work.

Minnesota Real Estate License Salesperson exam: This includes both the national and state specific portions. You can take these exams after finishing Course 1. They must either be taken at a testing center approved by the state or you can arrange for a remotely proctored exam.

The first part of this exam covers principles of real estate that apply nationwide, and the second part of the exam covers Minnesota-specific laws. You don't have to take both at the same time – you can arrange to take these parts on different days if you wish.
